Over years and years of reading hundreds of books, attending hundreds of workshops, courses, programs, and certifications and thousands of coaching conversations with countless coaches, mentors and consultants…I've discovered something.
YOU are the most important part of the whole equation. If your foundation is not set properly, then it will be very difficult and challenging to accomplish anything throughout the day. And forget about accomplishing your goals over the next 90 days. Or even creating that bigger vision!
Throughout the day, you will face a lot of distractions, comments, challenges, and obstacles that have the potential to throw you off - so it's important to be prepared for it every single day.
It’s essential you develop your own personal success formula and stick to it consistently.
Start your day off by focusing on yourself.
The ‘basic’ version of my daily routine starts off with a quick meditation to get centered and grounded. Then I read my personal mission statement which includes by BIG WHY, my genius, my purpose, my vision, my goals and who I serve.
I get laser focused on the most important 1-3 goals for the day. My calendar is already set so I typically don’t have to waste anytime thinking about “what I’m going to do”. It’s about laying the foundation for a clear, healthy, confident self to launch into the day.
Then I take care of my physical body by drinking water, eating a healthy breakfast and either doing some exercise or scheduling that for later in the day.
The point is, you have to take care of yourself first. You have to start off the day taking care of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. Once you take care of this, you will be better equipped to succeed throughout the day.
Newsflash leaders: because you are taking on BIG things, your day will not be ‘perfect’. You will encounter challenges and distractions that will throw you off your game, and sometimes it will feel like the universe is testing you.
THAT’S NORMAL; it happens to the best of us!
When that happens, instead of just plowing through it with your overachiever brute force, frustration, nervousness, anger, or agitation, create a 'Refueling Routine’ for yourself. Go for a run, turn on some energizing music, relax, connect with a friend, walk around the block, roll out your yoga mat, take a few deep breaths, take a power break. It’s times that these that you need a success formula for yourself – to support you in returning to your best, most full Self.
The point is, when the going gets tough, and you feel like you're not getting anywhere, then stop, take a BREATHER, and focus on taking care of yourself. Once you do, you’ll find that you’ll have more than enough energy, creativity, mental capacity, and internal resources to get through ANYTHING that comes your way.
Great success starts with YOU.
You have to lead yourself first before you can lead others.
